Discovering your inner world

As we sink into winter we get that physical reminder from the trees, the leaves and the sun. To drop our energy back and down into our roots. To regroup, to rest and to dream of spring.

In our modern world we longer get to live by the seasons. We don’t finish work earlier once the sun sets, we don’t rest on our bleed, most of us don’t even eat seasonal fruit and veg. This may seem like progress or that we’ve somehow beaten the system of the seasons, but it sure does feel like a fight.

What if we welcomed a new way of being. One that meant we saw rest as valuable as exercise. One that encouraged resting and nourishing our bodies before we get sick or exhausted. A way in which we find comfort in the slow. One where we can tune in with our bodies and listen to what they have to say.

I ask everyone how they feel in their body when they see me for a treatment. For many this is the first time they’ve ever been asked, they might struggle to answer or just think it’s an odd question.

But I want to create a world where we regularly check in with ourselves. Ask our body how she’s feeling. Listen to the subtle aches or sensations. If we acknowledge her when she whispers we don’t have to make her scream.

How can we do this? A daily practise is a great start. Whether that’s 10 mindful breathes when you wake. Placing your hands on your stomach throughout the day to check if you’re tensing or tightening your breathe. Perhaps you have a daily meditation practise, even 5 minutes is wonderful. You could go from 0 minutes with your inner world to 35 a week. That’s huge! A year of 5 minute meditations means you’ll have honoured your body and your energy for 1825 minutes! (Over 30 hours).

A block to all this might be either your belief that you don’t deserve rest or for some reason that it needs to be earned. I would like to remind you that no one ever expects a baby to earn their next nap. And you are that beautiful baby with just a few more moon cycles under their belt.

Happy journeying to your inner world.. I hope it feels like home.
